Drumshanbo Single Pot Still
A single pot still Irish whiskey from The Shed distillery in County Leitrim in the country's north.
Part of the Irish whiskey renaissance, The Shed have previously released lauded Gunpowder gin and Sausage Tree vodka before their whiskey came to maturation.
This has been distilled in the traditional Irish pot still method, that is, utilising both malted and un-malted (or "green") barley. In addition to this, they've used Irish Barra oats.
Wholly triple-distilled at their distillery, the whiskey is matured in a mixture of ex-oloroso sherry and ex-Kentucky bourbon casks. Bottled at 43%, there is no added colour and no chill filtration.
As well as the balance of the structure malted barley gives with the spice and richness of the green malt, Head Distiller Brian Taft says the small proportion of local Barra oats is what gives this dram a layer of creaminess.
